Richard Šanda

Richard Šanda (CZ)

trombone

Trombonist and composer from Prague. He is an aspiring young player, who has already gained extensive experience by playing, composing and arranging for major Czech big bands, such as Concept Art Orchestra, Gustav Brom Radio Big Band, Jazz Dock Orchestra and many more. In November 2016 he was nominated by the Czech Radio to take part in the Euroradio Jazz Orchestra, as leader of the trombone section. He undertook studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam where he worked and played with outstanding musicians such as Bob Mintzer, Robin Eubanks, Nils Wogram and others. In 2019 he was chosen to take a seat in the JM Jazz World Orchestra led by Luis Bonilla, and also played with Lionel Loueke in Luboš Soukup’s ensemble. Richard has performed with Miroslav Vitouš, Kurt Elling, Ed Partyka, Ben Wendel, Bart van Lier, Tommy Smith, David Dorůžka amongst others.

With the composition The Flower She Loves The Most, he is the winner of the Authors' Protection Association (OSA) competition for the best jazz composition by young authors for 2022.
