Gaetano Riccobono

Gaetano Riccobono (IT)

Singer and pianist, born in Palermo in 1965, Gaetano Riccobono has been a musician ever since his youth. Between 1989 and 1992 he was sent on a 120 date tour by the Teatro Massimo to sread the appreciation for jazz music in Sicily, with a group that included Enzo Randisi, Lino Patruno and Romano Mussolini. In the 90’s he studied singing under Cinzia Spata in Rome and in Palermo under tenor Rino Lo Cicero. His first CD, That’s Life, issued in 1997, is entirely dedicated to the reworking of Broadway Song. In 1998 Gaetano sings with Mark Murphy in the show Vocal Summit for Palermo di scena. In 1999 he moves to Verona, where he teaches and performs intensively while working at his second CD, Along the Sun (2001). At the same time he starts studying piano and bebop language. From 2000 to 2005 he teaches Jazz singing at LAMS Veneto and meets various outstanding artists, including the great Afro-american pianist Barry Harris. Between 1999 and 2005 he takes part in more than two hundred concerts in italy and abroad ( for instance at Le Petit Opportun Jazz club in Paris, at Jazz club Lustenau in Austria, at the Royal Conservatory Den Haag in Holland. In 2005 he comes back to Sicily and teaches for The Brass Group Palermo Foundation for Jazz. The 2006 album Giorgio Gaslini bets on Gaetano Riccobono starts from a Concerto for piano, voice and string quintet suggested by critic Lelio Tagliaferro and directed and arranged by Giorgio Gaslini ( 16-12-2002). In his fourth CD, Fino a Domani ( 2011), gaetano try to renew his repertoire singing in Italian some of his own compositions in a clear jazz mood. In January 2012 he performs at Ronnie’s Scott’s and in August of the same year at Pizza Express Jazz Club in London( as a guest of Barry Harris trio). From 2010 to 2015 teaches jazz singing at the Conservatory of Palermo and from 2014 to 2016 teaches jazz singing at Conservatory of Lecce. In October 2015 he goes to New York and meets various artists including the great Afro-american pianist and singer Johnny O’ Neal with whom he records the song A time for love. From 2016 to 2017 he teaches jazz singing at Conservatory of Messina. On 20 June 2017 he sings at Vittoria jazz festival. On July 31 2017 he takes part as arranger for string ensemble in the concert New Romance Songbook ( Palermo G.A.M ). On 17 July 2021 he sings at Jazz Alguer Festival writing arrangements for strings ensemble. On 31 July 2022 he sings at Alessandro Scarlatti’ Conservatory writing for strings ensemble. On 6 July 2024 he sings at Sicilia Jazz Festival writing for vocal ensemble. Since 2023 he teaches at Barry Harris International Workshop Rome.
