Robert Fischmann

Robert Fischmann (CZ)

flute

Flutist and multi-instrumentalist Robert Fischmann graduated from the Prague Conservatory in the class of Prof. F. Malotín. While studying English and general linguistics at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, he began to devote himself to jazz improvisation. He gained experience in such diverse bands as Taliesyn, Baroque Jazz Quintet, Irish Dew, C&K Vocal and Linha Singers. He also regularly performed with pop artists such as Lenka Filipová and Marie Rottrová. In the field of jazz music, he has collaborated with, for example, the Concept Art Orchestra, Jazz Dock Orchestra, the Gustav Brom Orchestra, Brian Charette, Sam Sadigurski and Lionel Loueke. This genre-spanning is still his specialty today: as a singer he is in the world-music group Bran, as a flutist he is a member of the Czech-Polish sextet of Štěpánka Balcarová and Małgorzata Hutek, as a percussionist he co-leads the nine-member brass band TooT Ensemble and last but not least as a multi-instrumentalist and singer he is in the band Nerez&Lucia. In September 2023, he released the author's album Gilgul together with David Dorůžka and Martin Novák, which was nominated for the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik in the World Music category in January 2024 and later that year won both the Czech Radio "Jazzová sklizeň" (“Jazz Harvest”) poll and the Anděl award for best jazz album.
