Jan Mazura (CZ)

jazz composition

Jan Mazura (1986) is a composer and pianist whose work is deeply influenced by places where he lived and by a wide spectrum of music – jazz, folk, classical and pop.

He earned a degree in jazz composition and music theory at Berklee College of Music, lived and worked in Spain, toured Europe with small jazz ensembles and orchestrated an american musical. As a music journalist, Jan was a long-time contributor to several foremost Czech music media and eventually worked as the Head of Classical and Jazz Music Desk at the Czech Radio Vltava.

His main creative platform today is Concept Art Orchestra, a leading Czech big band. He is a member of its production team, works as a photographer for the band and writes music for the ensemble. In 2018, his piece Nuevas tradiciones was selected as the Best jazz composition in the Czech republic. In 2022, the same band performed Jan's 45–minute cycle called Návraty (Returns).

Jan also teaches piano, composition, music theory and basics of a music production.
